  1. People are unhappy. There are 2 solutions: first to make them happy, second to outlaw being unhappy. Putin automatically resorts to the second because he knows no better. He knows how to get into power and stay in power. He does not know how to run a country properly. We live in an age where oppression of people’s thoughts and opinions is more difficult. Slowly that will change the world.

    • Putin has in some ways run Russia quite successfully – but like many leaders, his mindset is stuck in the 1980s. Authoritarian leaders the world over would do well to heed the warnings of Lee Kuan Yew: beyond a point, states simply have to democratise in order to avoid chaos.
