  1. There’s a surface politics which are the official announcements from countries and form the basis of what is reported in the media, and then there is a rougher deeper politics which is played out by asserting power in different ways. India is brave enough to fight at the deeper politics level, which means taking global corporations to task and upsetting Western governments. India is still seen as a sort of leader of the developing world, with countries like Brazil and South Africa following its lead. India is probably failing to fully help all the G77 developing countries as much as it could, but it still performing a valuable role a global model of how to slowly gain power. I think India (along with China and Russia) have seen how illusory Western power is and have changed strategy to hasten the formation of a truly multipolar world.

    • Western power (if indeed such a category even exists) has probably been on the wane for a while, but this is something that very few have realised, let alone planned for – even if such planning is desirable and needed.

    • Western power (if indeed such an aggregate practically exists) has probably been on the decline for some time now. But is the world ready for a multipolar era?
